The
18th green at Poquoy Brook may be beautiful but it plays extremely challenging. (gB/McAuliffe Photo) |
Primed Poquoy
"Psst!…don’t tell anyone, keep it to yourself. Poquoy Brook is in Tournament shape. Yeah, Professional Tournament shape,
just like on TV. Hustle-up and get us a tee time before everyone else catches on."
It’s true, Poquoy Brook may be off the beaten track but this is a first-class golf facility.
This 1961 Geoffrey Cornish designed course features a list of tempting risk/reward holes. The 2nd hole is a 410
yard par 4, dogleg right. On this tight tree-lined, narrow tee area and fairway the corner can be cut but this #1 handicap
hole requires a precise tee shot.

Triple Play at Butternut
Stow, Mass is home to three of the best golf courses in the
area. Butternut Farm Golf Club is one of them. Butternut GC may not be as well known as it's next door neighbor, Stow Acres, but it should. Boasting great playing
conditions, and a challenging layout with four sets of tees, Butternut can be enjoyed by the beginner, and the most
experienced players alike.

The par 3 8th hole at
Woods of Westminster is simply fun. (gB/Kennedy Photo) |
A Swing in the Woods
When you reach the top of the hill, and pull down the driveway you'll truly understand where the name
‘Woods of Westminster’ came from. The course, set in the hilly rural town of Westminster, is a fun, and interesting challenge.
A unique design is about the only defense this relatively short course has from fending very low
scores. Course management skills are more important than power on this course as there is only one par four that measures over
400 yards from the tips. With water only coming into play on two holes. During good playing conditions, this course can be an
ego builder, or buster, depending on your knowledge of the course and decision making.

Not Exactly Up To Par At Pembroke
"The staff at the starters shack are
great, smiling and helpful. The pro shop and restaurant staff took my money, but that
was it. Don't expect much friendliness from these folks. And the grounds crew are a bit clueless about their
own safety or the player's enjoyment." - Big Caddy Read review |
